Statistics have showed that over 5 million people in the United States suffer from moderate to serious form of restless leg syndrome (RLS).
Additionally, 1 in 10 adults has this health issue and over one million children of school age have RLS.

Common Symptoms Of RLS:
  • Pain in foot
  • Itching
  • Uncomfortable feelings in the legs
  • Desire for shaking the legs
Usually, the symptoms are more experiences during the night.
This is not a serious health condition, but it can affect your lifestyle and the ability to perform daily activities.

Causes Of Restless Leg Syndrome
There are two different types of this syndrome: primary and secondary. Thus, their causes are different.
For example, primary restless leg syndrome is hereditary syndrome and the reason lies behind the part of the brain which is responsible for monitoring. The secondary type of this syndrome may be brought on by a wide variety of factors, such as impaired kidney function, damaged peripheral nerves, degenerative diseases of the spinal column, anemia, and pregnancy.

Often, RLS can be a side effect of some medications and bad habits, such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, nicotine, coffee, and alcohol. The medical diagnosis is usually made on basis of a clinical picture and the laboratory results are based upon hormone status, kidney samples and complete blood count. In many cases, the patient is prescribed tranquilizers or analgesics or advised to take more vitamins, minerals, and exercise, depending on the medical diagnosis. In some cases, the root cause can be an iron deficiency, so those people are advised to consume more red meat, beets, and prunes in order to increase the levels of iron in their body.

How Can You Alleviate The Symptoms?
The symptoms can be facilitated with by getting up and waking up around at the same time. Experts however, suggest stretching just before bedtime, thus you need to sit on the floor with your legs stretching and after that slowly bend the torso to the feet to be able to reach the hands in this position for few minutes. Also, warm bath prior to sleeping is an excellent solution for relief of the symptoms. During the day, practice simple exercises and walk in the fresh air. You can also exercise and practice yoga that includes stretching, deep breathing and relaxation. Avoid beverages which contain caffeine such as black tea and coffee because they do bad influence on the blood circulation and sleep quality.

In many cases though, people who experience restless legs syndrome actually suffer from lack of iron in the blood so it is good to start consuming ingredients which are abundant in iron. Red meat, prunes and beet for example.

Tea Mixture

  • ½ liter boiled water
  • 1 tablespoon of chamomile flowers
  • 1 tablespoon crushed rosehip flowers
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • Lemon juice
Put the boiled water over the chamomile and rosehip flowers. Cover the mug and leave it for a while. Then, strain the liquid and add the honey and lemon juice. Drink the tea a couple of times daily and before going to bed.

Mix 3 drops of almond oil with 5 drops of basil and marjoram and massage the feet with this mixture every night.
